 YAMA can’t thrive without the help of many. In fact, YAMA becomes stronger and more vibrant when more people contribute. Your contribution of time is incredibly valuable.

List A Descriptions

 

1.   Philharmonia Dismissal:
Description: Must be able to do it every week. Every Tuesday, make sure each student is picked up on time (5:20-5:30pm) by an approved pick-up person. Ends each day after every single student is gone. This commitment still stands even if your child is absent that day.

Time Commitment: Approximately 30 min. weekly + 30-min training before first time. 5:10 – 5:40pm on Tuesdays until the end of the YAMA program year.

2.   Philharmonia Snack:

Description: Bring a snack for 21 Philharmonia students once a week. Deliver by 5:15pm to the Davis HS gate on 6th Ave. and distribute to all students during dismissal.

Time Commitment: 10 min. a week, plus the time it takes to pick up a snack.



3.   Philharmonia Parent Notices:

Description: Remind parents during pick-up, and by phone for walkers, about important events and information two weeks before a meeting or event. Distribute bulletins and answer any questions.

Time Commitment: 15-20 min. a day, 1 day a week, on average twice a month (1 or 2 weeks before concerts, parent meetings, and other events).

 

4.   Garfield Parent Notices:

Description: Remind parents during pick-up, and by phone for walkers, about important events and information two weeks before a meeting or event. Distribute bulletins and answer any questions.

Time Commitment: 15-20 min. a day, 1 day a week, on average twice a month (1 or 2 weeks before concerts, parent meetings, and other events).

 

5.   Arrange Carpools:

Description: Arrange all carpools if any student needs a ride to/from an event or field trip.

Time Commitment: 60 - 75 min. a week during specific weeks leading into major events or trips (12/4 – 12/16, 3/1 – 3/17, 5/14 – 5/26)

 

6.   Large Instrument Transportation:

Description: Transport large instruments between Davis and Garfield and between Davis and performance venues in Yakima.

Time Commitment: 20 minutes for each portion of transportation, plus transportation time (pick-up at Davis, drop off and pick-up at event, and drop off at Davis). Typically a Thursday – Friday – Monday or Thursday – Saturday – Monday schedule.

 

7.   Yakima Symphony Orchestra Shows Liaison @ Garfield & Philharmonia:

Description: When Backstage or Concert Passes are available for YSO concerts, help spread the word to Garfield students and families for sign-ups.

 

Time Commitment: Be at Garfield during dismissal for 4 days during the week of ticket sign-ups (4 concerts left this year) from 5:15 – 5:45pm, or until most families are gone.

 

8.   Parent Surveys @ Garfield & Philharmonia:

Description: Distribute parent surveys at Garfield and Philharmonia. Remind parents daily during specified weeks to complete and submit survey by end of week. Collect all surveys to return to YAMA staff for compilation.

Time Commitment:  20 min. a day over 3 weeks (1/22 – 1/25, 1/29 – 2/2, 4/30 – 5/4, 5/7 – 5/12)

 

9.   AOD support at Philharmonia or Garfield:

Description: Work with Site Director to decide on a weekly schedule for coming in to support attendance, parent phone calls and end of day communications to students and families

Time Commitment: One day a week during practice hours, as agreed upon with Site Director.

 

 

List B Descriptions 

 

10. Private Lesson Instructor:

Description: Teach private lessons at Garfield during the days that Philharmonia is not in session.

Time Commitment: Variable depending on program schedule; Fridays and Philharmonia days off when Garfield is in session.

 

11. Organize and Set up Refreshments for Recital:

Description: Organize parents of all private lesson students to put together a small reception to follow the annual recital (snack, drink, plates, utensils), and to help with set up and clean up of reception.

Time Commitment: 60-75 min. minutes of preparatory calls, 30-45 min. of setup prior to recital, 30-45 min. of clean-up after recital (depending on how many additional parents can help).

 

12. Field Trip Chaperone at one YAMA Field Trip (PHIL or GARF):

Description:  Assist YAMA Teachers on a trip or at an event.

Time Commitment: Variable.

 

13. Set-up and clean-up help during dress rehearsals @ Garfield:

Description: Help teachers to set up chairs and stands in all rehearsal spaces at Garfield. Help teachers to put away all chairs and stands after rehearsal is over. Help with stacking and un-stacking heavy tables in Library.

Time Commitment: 60 min. each on 12/15 and 5/25 (3:00-3:30pm and 5:10-5:40pm).

 

14. On-site Attendance and Phone Calls during Dress Rehearsal @ Garfield:

Description: [Bilingual English-Spanish required] Take attendance during dress rehearsal dates at Garfield. Make phone calls to parents whose children are absent and whom we have not heard from. Greet any parent that comes early to pick up their child and sign out students who need to leave early.

Time Commitment: 2.5 hours each on 12/15 and 5/25 (3:15 – 5:30pm) and 15 min. training in advance.

 

15.  Attendance, Phone Calls, and Check-out at Dec. 16th Concert @ Seasons:

Description: [Bilingual English-Spanish required] Take attendance during student arrival at the Seasons. Make phone calls to parents whose children are absent and whom we are expecting. Make sure each student leaves with an approved pick-up person. Call any parents of students who are not picked up and wait with them until they are picked up.

Time Commitment: 2 hours before concert (11:00-1pm) + about 60 min. after concert on 12/16.

 

16. Attendance, Phone Calls, and Check-out at May 26th Concert @ Seasons:

Same as above, but for May 26.

 

17. Provide, Serve, & Clean Up Lunch for Philharmonia students @ 12/16 Show:

Description: Bring lunch, refreshments, plates, utensils, etc. for 25 Philharmonia students to eat (bring by 12pm, serve from 12:30-1pm, clean up from 1-1:30pm).

Time Commitment: 1.5 hours on day of concert + whatever time it takes to prepare and bring food.

 

18. Provide, Serve, & Clean Up Lunch for Philharmonia students @ 5/26 Show:

Same as above, but on May 26.

 

19. Organize thank-you card signing:

Description: Work in collaboration with Mrs. Moultine, Ms. Hsu and/or Mr. Pualani whenever we have guests or other people who need to be thanked by YAMA students. Come to one or both sites for students to sign cards at the end of a practice day.

Time Commitment: 5:15 – 5:45pm, days vary based on events and guests.
