Yakima Music en Acción (YAMA) runs youth leadership programming that uses music as a vehicle to build confidence, healthy relationships, and a sense of belonging amongst young people who may otherwise not have access to music learning at the intensity and level offered by YAMA. YAMA actively works to build a culture of trust and consistency through its processes and systems across all levels of the organization.
What does a YAMA Teaching Artist (TA) do?
Teach small and/or large groups of students by preparing engaging lesson plans and facilitating activities to build trust, community, creativity, and musical competence.
Facilitate student development by including regular leadership opportunities into lessons, teaching to students’ different learning needs, and communicating successes and concerns to staff and students’ families.
Communicate with other TAs to adapt teaching goals, pacing, and content.
